Jacqueline Roch’s pastels are intense with color and contrast play an integral part in her work. Her subject matter reflects the unique environment of South Florida. Roch’s early training in traditional oil painting has directly influenced her use of pastels. As such, Jacqueline’s pastels are more painting than drawing. She layers the pastels to create complex colors and is able to achieve a quality reminiscent of oils.
Most recently, she now works and exhibits her work in the historic bakehouse art complex in the wynwood arts district of miami. She was selected as the poster artist for the number one ranked outdoor festival in the country , the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and the image went on to win the industries Pinnacle award.
Roch was also a recent recipient of an artist residency at Big Cypress National Preserve where she spent time exploring and painting the area.
Although Jacqueline Roch has been painting for many years, she began to exhibit her works in 1997. That year, with much encouragement from family and friends, she entered the Royal Poinciana Art Festival and won first place. Since that show she has won numerous other awards and poster selections in the State of Florida. Jacqui has also achieved Honorable Mention in the prestigious 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 Pastel Journal 1oo. In 2002, Jacqui was appointed to the City of Miami Beach Fine Arts Board. She also frequently works with children of various ages within the Miami Dade school system as a visiting artist .
