Personal Background
Born in Los Angeles, California in 1966 to Argentinean
parents and raised on Miami Beach, Florida, Jacqueline was
one of the first talent magnet program graduates in the
Dade County school system. As a child, she was formally
trained in traditional oil painting by Miami Beach artist
Angela Sanchez. Upon graduating from Miami Beach High ,
Jacqueline went on to study at Parson School of Design in
New York and at the University of Miami. She later moved
to Manhattan to pursue a career in graphic design.
In 1991 she came back to miami and
strted her education degrees. It was during this time that
she began painting with pastels under the guidance of
renowned portrait artist Professor David Chang. She now
holds a Masters and a Specialist degree in Education from
FIU.
Jacqueline Roch’s pastels are intense with color and
contrast play an integral part in her work. Her subject
matter reflects the unique environment of South Florida.
Roch’s early training in traditional oil painting has
directly influenced her use of pastels. As such,
Jacqueline’s pastels are more painting than drawing. She
layers the pastels to create complex colors and is able to
achieve a quality reminiscent of oils.
Most recently, she now works and exhibits her work in the
historic bakehouse art complex in the wynwood arts
district of miami. She was selected as the poster artist
for the number one ranked outdoor festival in the country
, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and the image went on to
win the industries Pinnacle award.
Roch was also a recent recipient of an artist residency at
Big Cypress National Preserve where she spent time
exploring and painting the area.
Although Jacqueline Roch has been painting for many years,
she began to exhibit her works in 1997. That year, with
much encouragement from family and friends, she entered
the Royal Poinciana Art Festival and won first place.
Since that show she has won numerous other awards and
poster selections in the State of Florida. Jacqui has also
achieved Honorable Mention in the prestigious 2003, 2004,
2005 and 2006 Pastel Journal 1oo. Jacqui has displayed her
works at several notable galleries and has been invited to
showcase her work for several philanthropic events.
She continues to gain considerable artistic
recognition in her area. Early in 2007 she became a
signature member of the prestigious Pastel Society of
America in New York City. In 2002, Jacqui was appointed to
the City of Miami Beach Fine Arts Board. She also
frequently works with children of various ages within the
Miami Dade school system as a visiting artist . Over the
years, Jacqueline has generously contributed her works to
charity benefits and other agencies that support the arts.
