Award winning artist Ruth Höök Colby expresses her vision through the medium of pastel. She prefers pastels for their versatility, immediacy and rich vibrant color. "Pastel is pure pigment with just enough binder to hold the powder together. For me, color is one of the most important aspects. Playing with color makes any heart sing". My inspiration is both internal and external resulting in both abstract and realistic work.

Her paintings have been featured in national and international juried exhibitions throughout the U.S. from Cape Cod to California. RUth has received sixteen awards for her pastels during the past five years, including 4 first place awards. She has signature membership with the Southeastern Pastel Society.

Her artwork is in private collections throughout the U.S. and Europe. Ruth is the cover artist and illustrator for the book "Conversations with Mary".
